KOLOHE KAI AND THE NEW SOUND OF REGGAE






Kolohe Kai is a music group of Americans living in Hawaii. The lead singer, Roman De Peralta, is of Filipino descent courtesy of his Pagkalinawan and de Peralta families. The drummer is Caucasian and the rest of the band members are of mixed Hawaiian ancestry. The band is consists of:

Kolohe Kai is a fresh, new island music group from the Windward side of Oahu whose reggae-influenced style is inviting and infectious.. The words Kolohe Kai mean fun loving (kolohe) and water (kai). The name is fitting since Kolohe Kai's members love surfing, paddling, diving, swimming and boating, not an unusual thing for young people from Hawaii.The group was founded by singer/guitarist Roman De Peralta while most of the members were still in high school. Their sound is a mix of reggae and R&B with a strong melodic pop sensibility. This young group caught the attention of indie record label Go Aloha Entertainment who signed them in 2009. The band was soon in the recording studio with producer/arranger Imua Garza (Rebel Souljahz, Opihi Pickers, Kaipo Kapua).The result is This Is The Life, the band’s debut CD, to be released in September 2009. This Is The Life contains 11 all original songs composed by Kolohe Kai leader Roman De Peralta, influenced by Roman’s family, faith, love of surfing, and love of life.The album soon hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Reggae Album chart, garnered several music award nominations, and spawned several mega-hit songs including "Ehu Girl," "Cool Down," and "This Is The Life" that caught the attention of fans from around the world.The band's highly anticipated second album, Love Town, was released in March 2011, showcasing a more mature, yet still fun-loving sound. In its first week of release the album debuted on the Billboard Top World Music Albums chart and shot to the top of the iTunes top selling albums chart in the United States and New Zealand. Within a few weeks of the album's release, several songs were receiving radio airplay including "Typical Heartbreaker," "Love Town," and "First True Love".


In March 2011, Kolohe Kai is set to tour New Zealand and on their return to Hawaii they will hold their CD Release Party at the Waikiki Shell in front of 7000+ plus fans. Kolohe Kai’s music is a breath of fresh air with themes of innocence and youthful enthusiasm, young love and all-around fun.Kolohe Kai – Roman, Noah, Jasmine, Ryan and Jordan – love making music and it shows during the band’s upbeat live performances, fun for all ages and enjoyed by lovers of all flavors of local music.

                              Onika Tanya Maraj was born in Saint James, a suburb of Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago, on December 8, 1982, to parents Carol and Robert Maraj. It is a mixed origin Indian and Afro-Trinidadian and has three siblings. Nicki Minaj participated PS 045 Clarence Witherspoon during her elementary school years, and later attended Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School 210, where she played the clarinet. Then she graduated from LaGuardia High School that specializes in music and visual arts and performing. Nicki Minaj wanted to be an actress, and in 2001, she starred in the Off-Broadway, "in case you forget." After her acting career failed to take off, Nicki Minaj worked at Red Lobster in the Bronx at the age of 19 years as waitress.Other work Nicki Minaj will be an administrative assistant, customer service, and of the office in an unfamiliar business located on Wall Street. During adolescence , home life was often chaotic Nicki Minaj and her parents constantly fighting . She wanted to create characters and live her life through them, saying, " To get away from their fighting , I would imagine I'm a different person . Nicki Minaj was reported in the media for her curvaceous figure. In an interview with Vibe Nicki Minaj discussed her sexual image . Nicki Minaj has a" signing boobs " part of its flow , giving women. She has been described as a "black Lady Gaga " because of its use of bizarre costumes and wigs , but she has rejected such comparisons . Nicki Minaj is known for her animated style of reflection , particularly its flow. often combines metaphors , punchlines and play on words to her work , which has received comparisons to his mentor , Lil Wayne . New York Times described Nicki Minaj as " sparkling rapper with a gift for comic Accents and unexpected turns of phrase . She jest presadÄ… walks, large size , the sound , personality and appearance. Discarding old modes as easily as adopting new ones. " Minaj stated that artists who have influenced her musical style include Lisa " Left Eye " Lopes , Lil Wayne, Smokey Robinson , Lauryn Hill, Jadakiss , Natasha Bedingfield , Remy Ma, Lil ' Kim and Missy Elliott . She was also inspired by Janet Jackson, Madonna , Britney Spears, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Jones MIA and Cyndi Lauper .

                              Nicki Minaj signed briefly with the group Full Force Brooklyn, where she rapped in a foursome group called "Hoodstars", which consisted of members of the Lou $ tar (son of "bowlegged Lou"), Scaff Beezy and 7even up. Nicki Minaj left the group, dissatisfied with their lack of success. During this time, she posted a few songs on their Myspace profile and sent some of their songs to people in the music industry. During this time, she was managed by Debra Antney. Fendi, president of the Brooklyn label Dirty Money Entertainment, which also found the sauce a rapper, he discovered music and contacted Nicki Minaj, signing her to his label. She initially adopted the nickname "Nicki Maraj", then change to "Nicki Minaj", stating, "My real name is Maraj. She released her first mixtape, Time's up, in 2007, with Dirty Money Records. Her second mixtape, Sucka Free , was released in April 2008. won the Female Artist of the Year at the Underground Music Awards 2008 shortly after. In August 2009, Nicki Minaj signed to Young Money Entertainment with distribution of Universal Motown Records, after fellow American rapper Lil Wayne discovered her on come up with a DVD. She generated attention when it first appeared in "Yo Gotti Chick" 5 star video, which gave her mainstream success in the urban community. ". The record earned huge commercial success, reaching the number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 She also appeared on "Roger", which charted at number 56 The song, in particular Nicki Minaj, received positive reviews from critics. After a serious war label bidding Young Money Entertainment announced on August 31, 2009 that Nicki Minaj was released with 360 transactions , printed, in which she retains and owns all of its 360 rights, including merchandising , sponsorships , endorsements , tourism and publishing. Her debut album , Pink Friday was released on 19 November 2010.  Nicki Minaj became the first artist to top the chart Rap Songs without care since 2002 , and later became the first female artist to be listed MTV 's annual Hottest MC . In October 2010 , Nicki Minaj became the first female solo artist to have seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time . The album went platinum in the United States a month after the release . " Super Bass " was released from Pink Friday in May 2011. A single charted in the top 10 in many countries , including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia and Canada , and was later certified as Octal - platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America ( RIAA ) . Nicki Minaj has confirmed plans to launch his own label, which signed Parker Ighile, Brinx and Keisha as artists and Blackout Movement as a producer. On 30 December 2013, Nicki Minaj released a viral Rap Freestyle to the song "Boss Ass Bitch" by PTAF via SoundCloud. she has become the most charted female rapper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, with forty-four appearances. Nicki Minaj led nominations for musicians rap on the Billboard Music Awards 2013 with seven nominations. She won Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the BET Awards 2013, which history as the first female rapper to win the award four times in a row. 

                              Nicki Minaj is the first and only female rapper to be placed on the list of Forbes' Hip-Hop Cash Kings. She made her first appearance on the list in 2011, when he earned US6.5 million from May 2010 to May 2011. In 2012, it ranked at No. 8 on the list , which earned US15.5 million from May 2011 to May 2012. Nicki Minaj rose on the list in 2013 , ranking at No. 4, is for P Diddy , Jay -Z and Dr. Dre , with total revenues of $ US29 million from June 2012 to June 2013. Following the disastrous Hurricane Sandy, she donated $ 15,000 from the Food Bank for New York City and held a turkey drive at her alma mater , PS 45 in New York. . She said that after her father went to rehab and started going to church " that was saved and began to change his life . " Critics have noted the use of Minaj in a variety of sexual identities in the music , some of which means that he is bisexual . However, she has said that there is no date or have sex with women , but added in an interview with Out magazine , " I do not date men either. " In an interview with Vibe commented : " I just embrace all people and all styles of life is not tell them they are bad people . Carly Rae Jepsen, her music and controversy



                              Carly Rae Jepsen is a Canadian recording artist and singer-songwriter. She was born on November 21, 1985 in Mission, British Columbia. She is the daughter of Alexandra and Larry Jepsen and has Danish roots. She attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, British Columbia before auditioning for Canadian Idol. After competing in the contest, she independently released her debut album, Tug of War, through MapleMusic Recordings on September 30, 2008. Two more songs were included on the album : " Tug of War " and " Sweet Talker ". Tug of War was released as a single on iTunes, and has been receiving radio airplay on various stations across Canada. Sweet Talker was performed by Jepsen as her Canadian Idol audition. May 2009, her second single, " Bucket " was released. " Call Me Maybe " was released on Canadian label 604 Records, which was followed by the released of an EP titled " Curiosity " on February 14, 2012. Pop singer Justin Bieber referred her to manager, Scooter Braun, in February 2012, who subsequently signed Jepsen to his Schoolboy Records label while obtaining an American deal with global distribution on affiliate Interscope Records. " Call Me Maybe " gained popularity on YouTube by reaching 400 million views. It also reached number one spot on both US Billboard and Canadian Hot 100, while also topping the charts in 19 other countries. Jepsen was also the first Canadian Idol contestant to enter the UK charts.
                              Jepsen's duet with Owl City, " Good Time " on June 16. 2012, was released as a digital download and appears on both artistic albums. Additionally, Jepsen appeared on the fifth season premier episode of the CW primetime soap opera, 90210 which premiered on October 8, 2012. Jepsen was sued in Federal Court in Los Angeles, in October 2012, for copyright infringement of Allyson Nicole Burnett. The second lawsuit was filed by Ukrainian pop star Aza on November 8,2012, in which Aza accuses Carly Rae Jepsen of sampling lyrics from Aza's song " Hunky Santa " without approval or consent. Scooter Braun- Justin Bieber's manager- is also named in the suit. representative of Jepsen has denied all the allegations. In June 2013, " Kiss  : The Remix ", compilation album containing remixes and instruments of singles from " Kiss " was released exclusively in japan and peaked at number 157 on the Oricon album chart.  on December 29, 2013, Jepsen announced that she would take over the role of Cinderella in the Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella beginning February 2014. Since August 2012, Jepsen is in a relationship with singer-songwriter Matthew Koma. Jepsen has received multiple awards and nominations, including three Juno Awards and two Grammy Award nominations. She was also named Billboard as 2012's Rising Star and introduced in Canada's Walk of Fame's Slaight Allan Awards.

Alicia Keys the Keys' on fire


                                            Alicia Augello Cook born on January 25,1981, in the Hell's Kitchen area of Manhattan, in New York City. She is known professionally as Alicia Keys, an American R&B singer-songwriter, pianist, musician, record producer and actress. She is the only child of Teresa Augello ( paralegal and part-time actress ) and Craig Cook ( flight attendant ). Her parents separated when she was two and raised by her mother during her formative years in Hell's Kitchen. At the age of four, Alicia Keys and a group of girls made an appearance on The Cosby Show and played the part of Rudy Huxtable's sleepover guests in the episode " Slumber Party ". Throughout her childhood, she was sent to music and dance classes by her mother. She began playing the piano when she was seven and learned classical music of composers like Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. At age of twelve she enrolled in the Professional Performing Arts School were she majored in choir and began writing songs. She graduated in four years as valedictorian as age of 16.
                                              In 1994, Alicia Keys met long-term manager Jeff Robinson and introduced Alicia to her future A&R at Arista Records, Peter Edge. Edge helped Robinson create a showcase for Alicia Keys and also got involved in developing her demo material. Alicia Keys signed to Columbia Records and she was accepted to Columbia University. But after a month, she dropped out of college to pursue her musical career fuul-time. Alicia Keys first studio album Songs in A Minor was released in June 2001, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 236,000 units. It went on to sell over 6.2 million copies in the US and 12 million copies internationally. Additionally, it was certified six times Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Alicia Keys' Songs in A Minor led her to win five awards at the 2002 Grammy Awards Song of the Year, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song for " Fallin ", Best New Artist, and Best R&B Album: Fallin was also nominated for Record of the Year. Alicia Keys opened a recording studio in Long Island, New York, called the Oven Studios which she co-owns with her production and songwriting partner Kerr " Krucial " Brothers. They are the co-founders of KrucialKeys Enterprise, a production and songwriting team who assisted Alicia Keys in creating her albums as well as create music for other artist.
                                                 In May 2009, music producer Swizz Beatz announced that Alicia and he were romantically involve. In May 2010, a representative for Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz confirmed that they were engaged and expecting a child together. During the time of 2010 FIFA World Cup, the couple had their union and their unborn child blessed in Zulu ceremony which took place in the Illovo suburb of Johannesburg, South Africa. On July 31,2010 they had a wedding celebration on the French island of Corsica. In October, Alicia gave birth to their son Egypt Daoud Ibarr Dean, in New York City. Throughout her career, Alicia Keys has won numerous awards and has sold over 65 million records worldwide. Billboard magazine named her the Top R&B Artist of the 2000 decade. In 2010, VH1 included her on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Billboard magazine placed her number 10 on their list of Top 50 R&B/Hip Hop Artists of the Past 25 Years.   

Lorde the Lord of alternative music



                       Ella Yelich-O'Connor was born in Auckland New Zealand on November 7, 1996. She was also known by her stage name Lorde, is a New Zealand singer-songwriter. She was the child of Sonja Yelich ( a poet ) and Vic O'Connor ( civil engineer ). At age 5, Lorde followed her friend into a drama group and discovered a love of singing and acting. Lorde's mother encourage her to red books and at the age of 12 she was proofreading her master's thesis for her. In 2009, Lorde and friend Louis McDonald participated in, and won, the schools talent show in Belmont Intermediate School. After seeing Lorde's performance in the talent show, McDonald's father sent out recordings of Lorde covering Duffy's hit song " Warwick Avenue " and Pixie Lott's " Mama Do " to various talent scouts. At age of about 13 or 14, Lorde began writing songs with her guitar.
                       Lorde's debut EP. The Love Club, was originally posted on SoundCloud in November 2012 and was available for free download. A music supervisor in the United States heard the EP and played it to Lava Records CEO Jason Flom who subsequently wanted to meet Lorde and sign her to his Universal subsidiary label. The Love Club EP features five songs, including the number one hit " Royals ", was officially released digitally in March 2013 and on CD in May 2013. " Royals " debuted as a single at number one on the New Zealand Top 40. In August 2013, with "Royals ", Lorde became the first female in 17 years to top the US Billboard Alternative Songs Chart. The release of " Royals " in the US in June 2013, 85,000 copies were sold during a single week in July. The song also peaked number one in the US on the Billboard Hot 100. With all these, Lorde became the first solo artist from New Zealand to top the US Hot 100, and the youngest artist to hold the US number one in more than 25 years. Lorde's musical style has been described by AllMusic as a " stylish mix of arty, confessional bedroom pop and club-ready electro-rock ". Lorde described her sound as maturing when working on debut album. Her music draws from electro-pop, but she grew up listening to soul musicians Etta James and Otis Redding. Lorde also stated that her music is also inspired by authors, citing Tobias Wolff, Sylvia Plath, Walt Whitman, and Leonard Cohen as influences in her writing. She also indicated that she is influenced by artist who originated in the late 1970's era of american Alternative and punk rock.
                           Lorde is a self-identified feminist. As of July 2013, Lorde is a Year Twelve student at Takapuna Grammar School. In January 2014, media articles revealed that Lorde is in a relationship with 24-year-old New Zealand-born photographer James Lowe, whom she met before her music career and both attended the 2014 Grammy Ceremony together.

Bruno Mars is out of this world


Peter Gene Hernandez ( born October 8, 1985 ), also known as Bruno Mars, is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. He was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii by a family of musicians. He is the son of Peter Hernandez and Bernadette San Pedro Bayot ( who died June 1, 2013 ). His father is half Puerto Rican and half Eastern European Jewish. Bruno Mars' mother immigrated to Hawaii from the Philippines as a child, and was of Filipino and some Spanish descent. He was nicknamed  " Bruno " by his father, because of his resemblance to legendary professional wrestler Bruno Sammartino. Bruno Mars is one of six children and came from a family of musicians who expose him to a diverse mix of reggae, rock, hip hop, and R&B. Bruno Mars was initially influenced by R&B artists such as Keith Sweat, Jodeci, and R. Kelly, as well as 1950's rock 'n' roll and Motown. Bruno mars began performing five days a week with his family's band at age four. He was featured in MidWeek as " Little Elvis ", going on to have a cameo in the film Honeymoon in Vegas in 1990. In 2003, after having graduating from president Theodore Roosevelt High School at the age of 17, Bruno Mars moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue a musical career. He adopted his stagename from his nickname his father gave him, adding " Mars " at the end because lot of girls say that he's out of this world.
                                      Doo-Wops and the Hooligans, was Bruno Mars' debut album and saw its physical release on October 5, 2010. Its lead single " Just The Way You Are ", was released on July 19, 2010 and has reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100.  The second single, " Grenade ", was released September 28, 2010, and has also seen successful international chart performance. The album was nominated for seven Grammy Awards, winning Best pop Vocal Performance for " Just The Wat You Are ". On September 19, 2010, Bruno Mars was arrested in Las Vegas for possesion of cocaine. He pled guilty to felony drug possesion, an in return for his plea, he was told that the charges would be erased from his criminal record as long as he stayed out of trouble for a year, paid a $ 2,000 fine, did 200 hours of community service and completed a drug counselling course. March 22, 2012, it was announced that Bruno Mars had signed a worldwide publising deal with BMG Chrysalis US. On December 11, 2012, Bruno Mars released his second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox. The album charted number one album in Switzerland and in United Kingdom. It was the fastes selling album by a solo artist in 2012. As producer and writer of  " Young, Wild and Free ", Bruno Mars was nominated for Best Rap Song at the 55th Grammy Awards. It was announced on January 10, 2014, that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers would be joining Bruno Mars for the Super Bowl half time performance.
                                     Bruno Mars has earned numerous awards and honors throughout his career. He has sold 10 million albums and 58 million singles worldwide as a singer. He has sold over one hundred fifteen million records worlwide as a singer, producer and songwriter.

Boyce Avenue a must watch band


                                            Boyce Avenue is a Puerto Rican-American rock band formed in Sarasota, Florida by brother's Alejandro Manzano ( lead vocals ), Daniel Manzano ( percussion, bass, backing vocals, violin ), and Fabian Manzano ( guitar, backing vocals, keyboards ). The band is named after a combination of two streets the brothers lived on as a children. Boyce Avenue formed in 2004 when Daniel moved back to Florida after graduating from Harvard Law School. Alejandro and Fabian were both attending classes at the University of Florida. Both tried to graduate before leaving the University but couldn't.
                                             Boyce Avenue began posting videos of original music and covers on popular songs on YouTube in 2007. While producing the videos for YouTube, they continued to create original material for their album, All You're Meant to Be. In 2009, they performed a stand-alone sold-out show in New York City at the Mercury Lounge. WWE in October that year also featured their single " Hear Me Now " in a video tribute to Eddie Guerrero on their decade of Smackdown show. With their sights set on connecting with their online fan base, Boyce Avenue turned their attention to touring, playing for headlining shows in the Philippines. Shortly following this, the band began its first tour of the US. They returned to the Philippines in early 2010 with Kris Allen and the Jabbawockeez. And followed by a spring visit tour of Europe in 2010. The band signed with Universal  Republic on January 23, 2010 and had a debut album entitled " All We Have Left " which was released on June 15, 2010. The album was produced and financed entirely by Boyce Avenue prior to being signed to Universal Republic. In August 9, 2011, the band are no longer signed to Universal Republic and started their own independent record label called 3 Peace Records. In November 2011, they released their own original music video, " Dare To Believe ". The following month they received one million subscribers on YouTube. On April 16, 2012, Boyce Avenue released the official video for their song " Broken Angel " as a worldwide debut through Q Magazine and YouTube. In June 2012, Boyce Avenue performed in its biggest headline tour to date, including stops at the Hammersmith Apollo in London, the Waterfront in Belfast, the Tubbinhalle Oberhausen, Stadpark in Hamburg, Several 02 Academy main halls throughout Great Britain and 2 shows at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin.

Taylor Swift Sweeps the Music Scene


                             Taylor Allison Swift is an American country pop singer-songwriter, musician and actress. She was born on December 31, 1989 in Reading, Pennslyvania. She is the daughter of Andrea Gardner, a homemaker who previously worked in finance and Scott Kingsley Swift, a stockbroker. She has a younger brother named Austin and her maternal grandmother was an opera singer. When Taylor was in fourth grade she won a national poetry contest. Her interest in playing the guitar was because at the age of ten, a computer repairman showed her to play three chords on guitar. She began writing songs regularly and used it as an outlet to help her with her pain from not fitting in at school because she was a victim of bullying. Taylor Swift attended Hendersonville High School in Tennessee but was subsequently homeschooled for her junior and senior years. She earned her high school diploma in 2008. Her greatest musical influence is Shania Twain.
                           Taylor Swift at age 11 made her first trip to Nashville, hoping to obtain a record deal by distributing a demo tape of her karaoke songs but was rejected. She caught the attention of Scott Borchetta after performing at Nashville's songwriter's venue. Scott Borchetta signed her to his newly formed record label, Big Machine Records. She became the youngest staff songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV  Tree publishing house. In mid-2006, Taylor Swift released her debut single " Tim McGraw ", reaching number 6 in Billboard magazine's Hot Country Songs chart. Her self-titled debut album spent eight consecutive weeks at the top of  the Top Country Albums Charts. In 2007, Taylor Swift won an award for the music video of        " Tim McGraw " for Breakthrough Video of the Year in CMT Music Awards. Her second single " Teardrops on My Guitar " peaked at number 2 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and number 33 on Billboard Hot 100.
                           In September 21, 2007, she helped launch a campaign to protect children from online predators. In October 2007, she was awarded Songwriter/Artist of the Year by the Nashville Songwriters Assn. Intl., making her the youngest artist ever to win an award. Taylor Swift's lyrics are highly autobiograpical; she has said that " If you listen to my albums, it's like reading my diary. " In early 2008, Taylor Swift donated the pink Chevy pick-up truck given to her by her record label to the children's charity, the Victory Junction Gang. In November 2008, Taylor Swift released her second album " Fearless ', and earned 4 Grammy  Awards including the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, at the 52nd Grammy Awards. Taylor Swift was named Artist of the Year by Billboard Magazine in 2009.

Rihanna also collaborated with American rapper Eminem in 2010 and the song was a worldwide success in the United States and six-times platinum in the United Kingdom. Girls' Generation is a South Korean girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2007. The nine member group consists of Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoheon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun. The songs " Into The World " and " Kissing You " is the beginning of their career when they gained attention. It was 2009 when they gained significant popularity with their hit single " Gee ". That song was classified by the online music store MelOn as the most popular song of the decade in South Korea. They solidified in Korean music industry with their follow-up singles. In 2010, the group sold more than 11,730,000 digital albums and singles. After series of activities in Japan in 2011, the group returned to the Korean Music scene with " The Boys " which was released in three languages : Korean, Japanese, and English. They received immense popularity which earned them titles " The Nation's Singer " and " The Nations Girl Group ". They also have been listed as #1 on the Top Female Singer's List for 4 consecutive years on the Leespair Popularity Survey in Korea. The Girls' Generation is truly the music of young girl's generation.
